Published Thu, 21 Nov 2024 21:19:47 GMT
"Moral hazard" is a well-established economic concept that basically says if there are no consequences for bad corporate behavior, there's no incentive for companies to change their ways. That was the stink that followed the bailout of banks after the 2008 financial crisis. Once businesses become "too big to fail," they can pretty much do as they please, engaging in the same risky behavior. While the collapse of Silicon Valley and Signature banks is nowhere close to the severity of the earlier mess, it once again places us in the unfortunate position of the government stepping in to keep the peace and make depositors whole. Silicon Valley Bank seized by FDIC in largest bank failure since 2008 It could be argued that this outcome was all but assured in 2018 after then-President Donald Trump signed into law a bipartisan bill deregulating financial firms. Trump called this "a great day for America."It wasn't.What the 2018 regulatory rollback did was relieve financial firms of much of t...The Golden Virtue – Tanja Subotic’s Upcoming Stories Are A Conduit Of Divine Wisdom

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth. Now the Earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.-Genesis 1:1-2The inception of the universe began with God. He forged the cosmos, every celestial object we see in the never-ending distance down to the nearest insect on this Earth. So, God created mankind in his own image; in the image of God, he created them; male and female, he created them.-Genesis 1:27The very last of his creation, man, was created by God in His own image to “rule over fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Man was entrusted with authority because God loves them so.Ironic how humanity ended up imposing rule over one another. From the moment they were created, the man began their journey toward what the Bible calls “The Great Tribulation,” an event that will see the sinners and the scornful face...Letters: Food trucks | Fentanyl fight | NEM 3 appeal | Foster care | No leadership

The spot these trucks park at is actually ideal if you look at it. Every time I go by the trucks are busy, providing a great service to the community as well as providing for themselves as small business operators. So one neighbor, in a nearby court complains about street safety and the council votes to ban their parking? They’ve been there for years and years without issue. Come on people, let’s use some common sense here. Highway 1, the main route between Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, remained closed for a second day Monday, its lanes submerged under an enormous expanse of muddy floodwaters covered neighboring farm fields, homes and businesses after a levee on the Pajaro River failed. As another atmospheric river roars in from the Pacific, set to hit the Bay Area early Tuesday morning, Caltrans officials said they have no estimate on when the critical road — traveled by tens of thousands of motorists a day — will reopen.“It’s an extended closure,” said Kevin Drabinski, a Caltrans spokesman. “It’s all a factor of when the water recedes.”The water was not likely to recede any time soon.Forecasters said the latest storm was expected to bring strong winds, falling trees, power outages, shallow landslides in some areas and widespread rain to the Bay Area and Monterey Bay Area overnight, peaking at about 5 a.m. Tuesday with rain expected all day.“Unf...Western Conference playoff outlook: How do the Warriors’ issues stack up with the rest?
Published Thu, 21 Nov 2024 21:19:47 GMT
With four weeks remaining in the regular season, there is little separation between the Western Conference’s fourth and 12th seeds. No cream of the crop has risen to top after a handful of superstars were redistributed to contenders.Barring a collapse, the Denver Nuggets, Sacramento Kings and Memphis Grizzlies will secure the top three seeds. The rest are up for grabs, and the contenders are neck-and-neck — a reality where a team can shoot up three spots with a win, or drop out of a potential playoff spot with a loss. The Warriors’ 7-28 road record has kept them in the middle of that jam. But their hopes of avoiding the play-in game are alive because of their stellar play at Chase Center (28-7) as well as Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers’ blockbuster acquisitions missing time or not quite having the impact expected. Can Golden State keep out of the play-in tournament? Here’s a look at the biggest contributing factors.West injuries and...Bay Area atmospheric river updates: Oakland Zoo closed Tuesday
