Review: ‘Assassin’s Creed Mirage’ is a return to what made early games so great

Review: ‘Assassin’s Creed Mirage’ is a return to what made early games so great When it comes to “Assassin’s Creed,” sometimes less is more. That’s how I felt over the past three iterations of the series that covered the Egyptian, Greek and the Viking civilizations. They were sprawling epics that pushed players to explore leagues of rolling hills, seascapes and deserts. They also required an inordinate amount of time to complete. Those titles took upward of 80 hours to see everything. In an effort to provide an open-world experience comparable to CD Projekt Red’s “The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt,” Ubisoft lost sight of what made “Assassin’s Creed” distinct. The latest entry, interestingly enough, began as downloadable content for “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” but grew more ambitious into a standalone title.Planned for the 15th anniversary of the original’s launch, the setting could somehow tie into the first game and the beginning of the series. That’s how “Assassin̵...

For imprisoned Nobel laureates, the prize did not bring freedom STOCKHOLM (AP) — The head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee urged Iran to release imprisoned peace prize winner Narges Mohammadi and let her accept the award at the annual prize ceremony in December.Such appeals have had little effect in the past.Mohammadi, an Iranian human rights activist, is the fifth peace laureate to get the prize while in prison or under house arrest. The Jaguars expect to have three offensive pieces back in the lineup against the Bills in London LONDON (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars expect to have three key offensive players back for their second of back-to-back games in London.Coach Doug Pederson said Friday that left tackle Cam Robinson, receiver Zay Jones and receiver/returner Jamal Agnew are on track to play against Buffalo (3-1) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.Robison was suspended the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s policy on performing-enhancing drugs. Michigan judge rules defendants accused in false elector scheme will not have charges dropped LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan defendants accused of participating in a fake elector scheme will not have their charges dropped after the state attorney general said the group was “brainwashed” into believing former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election, a judge ruled Friday morning. The decision comes after motions to dismiss charges were filed last week by two defendants, Clifford Frost and Mari-Ann Henry. The two defendants are part of a group of 16 Michigan Republicans who investigators say met following the 2020 election and signed a document falsely stating they were the state’s “duly elected and qualified electors.” Each of the 16 faces eight criminal charges, including multiple counts of forgery.President Joe Biden won Michigan by nearly 155,000 votes, a result confirmed by a GOP-led state Senate investigation in 2021.Attorneys for the defendants argued the case should be thrown out before it began after Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said during a Sept. 18 virt...
