OAKLAND – The Oakland A’s have sometimes needed a microscope to find positives through what‘s been an ugly first third of the season. At least one emerged Saturday, though, as left-handed reliever Hogan Harris gave the A’s a chance to stay within striking distance against the defending World Series champion Houston Astros.Harris, making his second career Major League appearance after he was recalled Saturday morning, allowed one hit and struck out five in five scoreless innings for the A’s in a 6-3 loss to the Astros, Oakland’s 10th straight defeat.Harris took over for opener Austin Pruitt in the second inning with the A’s down 2-0. After he got Jose Altuve to ground into an inning-ending double play in the second, Harris retired 12 of the next 13 batters he faced as the A’s trailed 2-1 going into the seventh.Harris’ outing stood in stark contrast to his MLB debut with the A’s on April 14 when he was charged with six earned runs in only one-third of an inning against the New York Met...SF Giants’ third straight win vs. Brewers includes unlikely sources: Sour Patch Kids and Logan Webb’s four-seam fastball

MILWAUKEE — Casey Schmitt has injected all kinds of energy into this Giants team since being called up earlier this month. Little did we know the importance the pregame infusion of sugar the fun-loving rookie has recently provided Mitch Haniger’s typically rigid diet.“I’ve been giving him a little Sour Patch before every game,” Schmitt said, giggling, after the Giants’ 3-1 win over the Brewers on Saturday. “I did it yesterday. I did it again today. And he hit home runs in both games.”Haniger’s second homer in as many games was the deciding blow in their third straight win over the Brewers, coming the inning after Logan Webb looked mortal for the first time all game, allowing Milwaukee to pull even at one on the final pitch of his masterful seven-inning performance.“I get on him for bringing food into the dugout,” said Haniger, who added a pair of singles for his second consecutive three-hit game. “But he gave me Sour ...Panthers’ Tkachuk says he’s rooting for both Tatum and Butler in playoffs

LITTLETON, Colo. (KDVR) -- Boating season is underway and Memorial Day Weekend is expected to be especially busy. As people gear up for outdoor activities on the water, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is sharing safety tips to prevent a search and rescue situation. Grant Brown, Colorado boating safety program manager, said it’s important to keep an eye on the afternoon storms that roll in from the west. “If you can be off the water ahead of it, then we recommend that, but if you get caught on the water then you might have to ride out that storm,” Brown said. CPW said 2022 was Colorado’s deadliest year on the water with 36 deaths. Brown said a majority of those deaths occurred from people swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking without life jackets. Which parks are open for boating during Memorial Day weekend? “One of the key contributing factors is cold water emersion, cold water shock coupled with no life jackets, so the biggest thing for us is life jackets,” Brown said.
