Broncos coach Sean Payton sees WR Jerry Jeudy as “an important piece of what we’re doing”

Published Wed, 05 Mar 2025 03:00:00 GMT

The Broncos could have traded Jerry Jeudy over the spring and summer. They didn’t.They could have traded him ahead of last week’s trade deadline. They didn’t.Coach Sean Payton on Monday reiterated what Denver’s thought all along about its fourth-year wide receiver: They value him in a way that exceeds whatever teams have offered over the past several months.“He’s an important part and important piece of what we’re doing,” Payton said. “… Shoot, he’s a guy we think is dynamic. He’s a guy that last week – sometimes it’s a fickle game where all of a sudden we’re five games into the season and Brandon Johnson has three touchdowns and Jerry doesn’t have one. Sometimes that’s the nature of the passing game. But (Jeudy) played extremely well last week and he’s going to be very important for us going forward.”Teams called. Made offers even. Payton went out of his way to point out that he never said Denver was going to stand pat at the trade deadline, even though that’s what ended up happeni...

Kurtenbach: The Warriors trading James Wiseman was the right call then. It looks even smarter today

Published Wed, 05 Mar 2025 03:00:00 GMT

As the Warriors were hammered in the paint by the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, it was easy to think, “This team needs a 7-footer.”One logical step from that was remembering that the Warriors drafted a 7-foot center with the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft not long ago.But last spring, the Warriors traded away James Wiseman, who landed with the Pistons. On Monday night, the Warriors will play in Detroit. They’ll head to the Motor City looking like geniuses for making that deal.Do the Warriors have a size problem? Absolutely. But as they discovered firsthand, Wiseman was not a solution to that issue. And while the center is only 22 years old, things have not improved in Detroit. Now and again, there is a flash of that talent that pushed him to the top of the draft, but on the whole, Wiseman is fighting for his NBA life. The Warriors, meanwhile, received Gary Payton II in the Wiseman trade. What Michael Conforto opting in means for SF Giants

Published Wed, 05 Mar 2025 03:00:00 GMT

In the fourth inning of an otherwise mundane game at the end of July, Michael Conforto stepped into the batter’s box for the 350th time last season, earning him the right to opt out of his contract after the season. Decision day came Monday, and Conforto will be sticking around.Of the three Giants with player options or out-out clauses, Conforto will join Ross Stripling in returning for 2024. He will make $18 million in the second year of the two-year deal he signed last offseason, while Sean Manaea, the third in that group, will head back to the free-agent market. All three players bet on themselves, but only the only one who performed well enough for it to pay off was Manaea, who is likely in line for a multiyear contract. The other half of the deal is the risk taken on by the Giants, who are now on the hook for $30.5 million in salary next season for players who aren’t necessarily part of their long-term plans.Conforto, 30, hoped to show teams that he was back to full ...
