The housing crisis continues to grow in the D.C. area. But there is some potentially good news for renters in the District.A recent request from Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office to move out $20 million from the District’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) into a rapid rehousing program, which helps people experiencing homelessness, was blocked by the D.C. Council on Tuesday.Councilmembers discussed ways to keep the rental assistance program open at a Nov. 7 council meeting.Officials said that when ERAP, which helps D.C. residents earning less than 40% of the area’s median income avoid eviction, opened for applications in October, it crashed. The system received a total of 3,578 applications, highlighting the need for the program.“We cannot take away funding from a program helping residents avoid eviction and homelessness,” Councilman Robert White said in a statement. He said that he along with Council Chairman Phil Mendelson directed an additional $...Fresh Tracks Therapeutics: Q3 Earnings Snapshot

Published Fri, 22 Nov 2024 02:26:17 GMT
I know there are some Thanksgiving gatherings without a vegan or a vegetarian at the table, but these days that seems like more of an anomaly than the norm.We have had vegetarians at our Thanksgiving table my entire life. My sister, Lizzie, and her daughters are vegetarian and now vegan, and my mother became a vegetarian later in life. There are plenty of folks at the table who want to enjoy the turkey and all those trimmings, but a significant number of others are interested only in the vegetarian or vegan sides. And there is no way anyone leaves a Workman family Thanksgiving anything less than full and happy, so we Bring It for everyone. But cooking for a crowd on Thanksgiving is already challenging enough, and no one wants to make a whole lot of extra dishes. So, the name of the game is adaptability and streamlining. The short of it is that we make plenty of meat-free sides, including some that are substantial enough to feel entrée-like for the non-meat eaters. And then we make mod...Acasti: Fiscal Q2 Earnings Snapshot

A new federal rule that goes into effect next month could make it easier for millions of workers to form unions at big companies like McDonald’s. But it’s already facing significant pushback from businesses and some members of Congress. The rule — announced late last month by the National Labor Relations Board –- sets new standards for determining when two companies should be considered “joint employers” under the National Labor Relations Act. It sounds wonky. But essentially, the rule could widen the number of companies that must participate in labor negotiations alongside their franchisees or independent contractors. For example, it might require Burger King to bargain with workers even though most of its U.S. restaurants are owned by franchisees. Or it could require Amazon to negotiate with delivery drivers who are employed by independent contractors. “It’s trying to take in the realities of today’s workforce, when many employers subcontract out work and say, ‘Oh, we’re not the em...Latest news
