ATLANTA — Stuck in a 1-for-28 slump, Brandon Crawford was out of the Giants lineup Saturday against the Braves, and manager Gabe Kapler said there’s a good chance he gives him another day off Sunday with left-hander Max Fried on the mound. In part, that’s why Casey Schmitt was rushing from the West Coast along with right-hander Sean Hjelle on Saturday. The pair each received early wake-up calls — 5:15 a.m. PT for Hjelle — but only Hjelle had made it to the ballpark with less than 2 hours until first pitch.Schmitt is likely to start at shortstop in the series finale Sunday with Crawford receiving a second straight day off, Kapler said. Hjelle gives them another arm with right-hander Ross Stripling (mid-back strain) placed on the 15-day injured list and Ryan Walker on the paternity list. While Crawford was short-spoken when asked about his recent struggles after striking out in all three of his at-bats in Friday’s loss (“I wish I knew the answer,” he said), ...Legal scholars increasingly raise constitutional argument that Trump should be barred from presidency

Washington (CNN) — Prominent conservative legal scholars are increasingly raising a constitutional argument that 2024 Republican candidate Donald Trump should be barred from the presidency because of his actions to overturn the previous presidential election result. The latest salvo came Saturday in The Atlantic magazine, from liberal law professor Laurence Tribe and J. Michael Luttig, the former federal appellate judge and prominent conservative who’s become a strong critic of Trump’s actions after the election. Not all in the legal community agree – and what the scholars are proposing would need to be tested in court.Yet Luttig and Tribe’s writings capture a conversation about the Constitution and the 2021 insurrection that is likely to grow heading into the 2024 election season. They and others base their arguments on a reading of part of the 14th Amendment, a post-Civil War provision that excludes from future office anyone who, previously, as a sworn-in public official, “engaged in...Grandson of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter says ‘we’re in the final chapter’ in health update

But “there’s always somebody at the house” to keep the Carters company, he said.CNN reached out to The Carter Center for comment on Saturday but did not receive a response.“He’s still fully Jimmy Carter,” Josh Carter said of his grandfather. “I mean he’s almost 99 years old, but he fully understands (how many well wishes he’s received) and has felt the love.”Meanwhile, Josh Carter said his grandmother Rosalynn Carter, who has dementia, is cognizant of her diagnosis and even signed off on the...SF to celebrate 100th birthday of Green Goddess Dressing

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (AP) — Max Homa experienced the potential for disruption with betting at PGA Tour events when he said a fan yelled in the middle of his 5-foot birdie putt Saturday in the BMW Championship.Homa already was struggling with short putts on a windy day at Olympia Fields, having missed a 2-foot putt on the seventh hole a 5-footer at No. 12.What bothered him was what he described as a drunk fan on the 17th hole, right after Chris Kirk had left his 18-foot birdie putt about 1 foot short. Homa holed his 5-footer, then shouted and pointed at the man as he walked off the green.“There was a probably drunk — I hope, for his case, or else he’s just he biggest loser there is — but he was cheering and yelling at Chris for missing his putt short,” Homa said. “And he kept yelling — one of them had $3 for me to make mine — and I got to the back of my back stroke and he yelled, ‘Pull it!’ pretty loud.“I made it right in the middle, and then I just started yelling at him...Latest news
